Socrates

Mission

Socrates mission was to show people who thought they were intellegent that they really weren't.

Beliefs

Socrates' beliefs and religion and government were very unclear and are still subject to debate even today.

Execution

Socrates' was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth and not believing in the gods.

Overview

Socrates is called the father of philosophy but none exist today so it is unknown if he wrote down any of his views. Most of his philosophical views we know through his student, Plato's writing. There are three dialogues about Socrates written by Plato; the Apology, the Crito and the Phaedo. Socrates was often depicted in plays, sometimes comically as with the play Clouds by Aristophanes

Socrates' mission was to make people question things.

Beliefs

Socrates had many beliefs that are unclear and very contrasting given that everything we know about him was written by other people.
